 AA Optoelectronic has a range of water cooled and air cooled Q-switches upon which laser manufacturers around the world are standardising.
A Q-Switch is a special modulator which introduces high repetition rate losses inside a laser cavity (typ 1 to 100 KHz).
They are designed for minimum insertion loss and to be able to withstand very high laser powers. In normal use an RF signal is applied to diffract a portion of the laser cavity flux out of the cavity. This increases the cavity losses and prevents oscillation.
When the RF signal is switched off, the cavity losses decrease rapidly and an intense laser pulse evolves

AA Optoelectronic offer a range of air-cooled Fused Silica and Quartz Q-switches which are designed for use in lasers with short cavities. The hard coating with low reflectivity and high quality material assures a high damage threshold > 500 MW/cm².
While air-cooled Q-switches are for low gain cavities, water-cooled Q-switches
are for high grain cavities. AA offers a wide range of water cooled Q-switches in industry-standard packages which are very competitively prices, and offer reliable and high performance operation
